The Trendsetter: Cooling Devices
Late June brought record-breaking temperatures across the country, particularly in Seattle, WA – the location of Stackline’s headquarters. Seattle has only reached 100 degrees three times before and this heat wave brought highs over 100 degrees three days in a row.
As temperatures across the U.S. reached historic highs, so did consumer searches for “Portable Air Conditioners.” In fact, Portable Air Conditioners jumped 53 spots year-over-year to the #90 topic in the U.S. and the #3 topic in the Home Improvement department as Americans prepared for the heat wave.
Looking at the year-to-date search volume for this topic, there have been 24.4 million searches in 2021. This is a +61.2% increase from the 15.1 million searches during the same period last year.
In addition to Portable Air Conditioners, there were several heat-reprieve topics that saw a surge in consumer searches: Window Mounted Air Conditioners, Tower Fans, Floor Fans, Box Fans, Cooling Blankets and Ice Makers.
The highest rated portable AC brands sold online are Whynter, LG and Honeywell – all of which are up in search volume year-over-year. When double-clicking into the Whynter brand, there have been 415.9K searches year-to-date, a +12.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
